Surroundings & Courage
"As soon as you start to pursue a dream, your life wakes up and everything has meaning." - Barbara Sher
Bravery is embracing all we are in spite of what we think we will never be. It is our boldest move yet! Courage is dreaming and moving forward despite our shortcomings. It is surrounding ourselves with:
Hope, tenacity, intentionality....
And fueling it with life, creativity, positivity...
Then setting it in motion by the script of our dreams.
We can easily overlook the importance of our surroundings (and often do). To become powerful people capable of accomplishing impossibility, we have to be intentional about the environments we choose to cultivate ourselves in. Healthy plants need nutrient rich soil, proper amounts of water, and plenty of sunlight. Isn't it interesting that each one of those elements is a symbol of life on its own?
Soil is where you are planted. It's the beginning, and the continuation. Soil is dirty, like life. And anything you plant in it is covered in dirt. We cannot be afraid to get dirty in our own journey. Once a seed is planted, it has to stay there. But overtime, it begins to grow roots. And it is those roots that become the foundation for something bigger, and more beautiful to grow from. The roots also sustain the plant with life. We cannot remove ourselves from the "dirt" of life, but we can allow life to be cultivated from it. There is also good soil and bad soil. We can choose to plant ourselves in the best soil available.
Surround yourself with life! Surround yourself with people who inspire, uplift, challenge, and bring the best out of you. Surround yourself with people that will look at the good in you, and believe the best in you. Pursue a community and culture that promotes the kind of person you desire to be. Plant yourself in the midst of positive, intelligent, and meaningful creativity. There is enough negativity in this world as it is.
Water cleanses, replenishes, washes, and sustains life. Dry soil is useless soil. It's dirt without purpose. Water yourself with life! Your mind is the battleground, and we are our own worst enemy. Until we renew our mind and wash away the grime, we risk living in the shadow of lies. The voice of fear in our mind will always try to sabotage the idea of a better life.
"Success is not final. Fear is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts" - Winston Churchill
What we "water" our mind with will influence what we believe and think. Whatever reality exists in our mind, becomes the reality of our lives. Our very identity is wrapped up in who we think we are, and how we perceive ourselves. As Bill Johnson says "We can't afford to think thoughts about ourselves, that God doesn't think about us".
Surround your mind with truth and life. And take the negative, corrupt, self defeating, self incriminating, and self destructive thoughts captive. And flush them down the toilet of "You can't stop me!" You are more than a conqueror!
Philippians 4:8 - "And now, dear brothers and sister, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise"
Light is everything! It is the opposite of darkness. It is warmth, it is clarity, it is visibility. Invisible rays of hope and life that sink into the soil, supercharging the elements of life in water, penetrating down to the core of growth. Unlike soil and water, sunlight is intangible. You can see it, feel it, and know it's there. You cannot hold it in your hands. Yet its effects can be seen and felt. Sunlight is love, power, and a sound mind. It is light at the end of any tunnel. It is the guiding star in a pitch black sky. It is beauty at sunset and sunrise. It is the pursuit of your dreams, and the radiance of your being. As a plant grows into maturity, it becomes a contributor to its environment. Sunlight activates photosynthesis which releases oxygen back into the air, so life can continue to breathe.
Sunlight allows us to become radiant in the world around us. Inspiring, cultivating, and bringing others to life around us. People with purpose pursuing our passions. People that cannot be ignored because purpose attracts life, and life draws everything back to itself. The ultimate source, "Christ in us, the hope of glory!"
Surroundings and Courage
It's not enough to simply surround yourself with life and a positive atmosphere. We must be courageous in our efforts to hope, dream, and build the best versions of ourselves. We have to take even the smallest step towards the dimmest hope. We must risk enough to confront the lies in our mind, to realize that the lie is only empowered by our belief in it. It isn't our reality. We have to be courageous enough to believe something different than the worst life has given to us. We have to be bold enough to believe we are capable of so much more than we think. We have to be courageous enough to love ourselves for who we are and where we are. Without compromising our ability to dream and envision a better version of us tomorrow, building on the memorial of yesterday, while still valuing and being inspired by who we are today.
"Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go." - T.S. Eliot
