You.

You.

Jesus said, "If those who lead you say to you, 'See, the kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father. But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty."

I am coming to the belief that the reason our world is in the condition it is in, is because we have lost something of great value. We have lost sight of something priceless. We are being taught to value nearly everything else, but that which is most important.

We have lost the value of loving ourselves.

I can tell you with certainty that the primary issue in our country today is identity. We have lost sight of ourselves, and therefore our country has lost sight of itself. I see it in the every day Joe Schmo, I see it in the tabloid stories. I see it in the news; in marriages crumbling by the droves. I see it in the Church; in the eyes of children trying desperately to grasp hold of understanding. We are so confused about who we are, and why we are. We are under the false illusion of society that creates pressure to be the exact opposite of who we are, and what we are. We are becoming the product of assembly-line-made-mundane molds of lifeless, unique-less, dis-empowered, dis-eased and diseased beings. Until we learn the meaning of "us", we will have little meaning for much else.

Loving yourself...

It sounds selfish, New Agey, and counter Christ-ural. Because false humility presented through human philosophy posing as Christianity, says "less of me, more of Him". When He had less of us before He made us. He had less of us before He sent His son to die for us. We are being polluted with the idea that we simply aren't worth the love we give others. When we are starved for the same love we share with the world around us. To assume that loving yourself is wrong, unnecessary or counter productive, is like an apple tree hating itself for growing fruit. I believe that the majority of the pain and suffering we experience is self-induced. Tragedies happen in a moment, pain follows us on the leash we put around it's neck. If you let go of the chain, the ball will sit motionless. Love is the door you open within yourself to unlock yourself. When you live in the freedom of the expression of yourself, nothing can stop you from living and experiencing the kind of life you have always dreamed of. We all have dreams. We all have ideals. Most of us would create an alternate reality if we had a magic wand. Totally oblivious to the fact that we are the magic wand.

The reality you create is shaped in the script of the story you tell yourself. Know this; everything you want is on the other side of the love you give yourself. And your ability to impact the world is established in what you are able to give to it. But you cannot give away what you do not have. So try it out. Start loving yourself.
