John 16:33 - I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
A word of such great power. Perhaps only rivaled by love.
If ever there was a time in our world, in our cities, throughout the nations; where the cries and desperation for hope are being screamed - that time is now. Silent screams from hopeless hearts that are never heard. Yet on the outside, life seems full, maybe even radiant. On the inside, some are closing the door on life. They haven't seen the light of hope in so long, they can't bring themselves to believe they ever will again. We are at war within ourselves, fighting an enemy we cannot even see. Darkness is the disease that consumes you. Another day awake, another day asleep. The same old same old. The clock on the wall ticking away, and it's been so long since we've felt anything else. Tears turn into numbness, and no one would ever understand us. You see, it's not that simple - it's not black and white. Everyone has empty words; null opinions - but no one has answers. No one can make the air I breathe feel like life. I argue with myself, trying to see the good side of hopeless. But the only door open in sight, is the door that reads "the end".
Some of you reading this may understand what I've said here. The rest of you will think what I have written is dark and morbid. The difference between those two groups is one has stood on the fringe of life's end. The other has not. One has lost all hope. The other cannot imagine nor rationalize why someone could be that hopeless, think those thoughts, or feel that way. The one on the brink envies the one who seems to have what they long for: hope. My friends, I write to you today to tell you that I have stood at death's door. I know the sound of those "voices" that tell you there will never be hope. But I am here to empathize with you and tell you there is more than hope! Because you are SO very loved! Beyond human feelings or emotions! A love that will not change! A love that cannot change! A love so deep! A love that understands the depth of your hurt, the desperation of your tears, and will pull you out of the lie, trap, and darkness called hopelessness. What I will NOT tell you is that it is easy. Or that everything will magically change overnight (though for some it has). What I can promise you is that this hope - this love - is so rich! So deep! That you will never live your life in that pit of despair again. Because once He has you, He never let's go!
His Name is Jesus!
Jesus is compassion! He is hope! He is love! I wan't to share with you some very import and yet overlooked moments in His life, and how He understands. How He can relate. And how He so desperately wants to be your hope!
Matthew 9:36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Matthew 14:14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had
compassion on them and healed their sick.
Matthew 15:32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way."
Matthew 20:34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
Luke 7:12-13 As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out-the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said "Don't cry."
John 11:33-36 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. "Where have you laid him?" he asked. "Come and see, Lord," they replied. Jesus wept. The the Jews said, "See how he loved him!"
My friends, no one will ever understand more than Him. No one else has the hope you and I long for. No one else can love without borders. No one else can offer us unfailing strength. No one else can stand with us and never fail us.
Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you."
Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.
Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
He will give you rest! I am able to write this to you today because I have tasted the tip of death in the despair of darkness. And by Him, by Hope! I discovered the light and life that rescues, that saves; that closes the door on darkness. And thrusts you forward into life! Abundant life! Cry out to Him with your heart! With all your desperation! Reach out, I promise you - His hand is right there!
Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you and tell you
great and unsearchable things you do not know.
Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
He will answer you! He does know! He does care! And there is hope! Let go of the darkness and just ask Him. Cry out to Him! It won't consume you anymore! Nothing can snatch you out of His hand.
Psalm 56:8 You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each on in your book.
He will give you a hope and future!
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord.
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
