Just A Touch

Just A Touch

Mark 6:56 - And wherever he went - into villages, towns or countryside - they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.

Luke 8:44 - She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. My heart in this post is to hopefully explain and portray the beauty of touching God! With so much hurt and brokenness in this world, with so much confusion and religion. With so much striving and trying to accomplish something that has already been done. To fall short, with no strength left to hold on. When all we need is just a touch. A touch is a touch, it’s more than enough! When we touch God; even just the edge of His cloak - there is freedom! In the verses posted at the top of this page we see at least two examples recorded in the Bible of “many” people (described as “they”) begged Jesus to let them touch just the edge of his clothing. And in Luke, we read about a sick woman with some kind of internal bleeding issue who, against all odds - pressed her way through a large crowd to touch the edge of Jesus clothing. The outcome was freedom - in the form of healing. Healing is freedom! And the Bible says where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! This freedom is free. It was paid for on the cross. We can do nothing more to earn it, or qualify for it. And the best part is, He wants us to be free! He wants us to encounter Him! To touch Him! To know His love and His goodness! Just a touch! That’s all it takes. To reach out and simply touch Him. How much work, how much faith; what effort does it take to simply touch? We touch things all the time. The state of our being every day is in essence touching something - at all times. With so little effort and such great reward; and a God who is waiting like a loving father to hold a newborn child. Reach out to Him! Let go and embrace His healing grace! He wants you to have it! If we would only stop striving so hard for what is already ours. We could live in the freedom that we have been given through Christ. Freedom from anything and everything. It was all done on the cross! Let's look at what we can expect if we simply just take Him at His Word and reach out to Him: John 4:49-50 - The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” Jesus replied, “You may go. Your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed. A man came to Jesus to ask Him for help. His child was going to die. Jesus simply told the man to go, and his son would live. And the man took him at his word. In the verses following we discover that the man’s child was healed the very moment Jesus spoke. But how many of us will simply take Him at His word? There is freedom in just a touch! You can take Him at His Word! In fact, you can bank on all He is. Because His love is so great for us. All it takes is a touch. For whether we touch some of Him, all of Him (if that were possible) or even just the very edge of Him - a touch is a touch, it’s more than enough!

It wasn't long ago that I was lying motionless, in a state I could only describe as "nothingness". I had fallen asleep - peace, joy and love cushioning my heart. I woke up in a hell; a cold silence in
